 Position Overview:

This Missouri-licensed Attorney position represents the Prosecuting Attorney in civil and criminal courtrooms across northeast Missouri, through a cooperative agreement with the Missouri Department of Social Services Family Support Division. This Assistant Prosecuting Attorney will work with staff from our local office, as well as interact with Court personnel, Judges and custodial parents across northeast Missouri. With supervision, this Attorney will assist in supervision and productivity of the Mexico Regional Child Support Unit.

Education and Experience:

J.D., with Missouri Bar license in good standing. Missouri Driver’s license.

Microsoft Office and Excel experience.

High level of technological competence and cooperative experience.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Review referrals for prosecution of child support obligations through civil and criminal processes

Work with local staff to encourage, structure and prosecute payment of child support obligations

Prepares documents and entering case tracking using case management software

Travel to dockets across northeast Missouri via car

Communicates extensively with internal and external audiences

Research and provide information on legal topics and child support obligations, provides information and guidance to parents, stakeholders and colleagues.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge:

Missouri-licensed attorney, graduation with a J.D. degree.

Maintaining office services; including telephone, fax, constituent communication, data entry and computer skills and file management.

Adapt to constant interruptions from the telephone, personal contact with constituents, court staff, office staff and requires a pleasant but firm & cooperative demeanor.

Maintaining confidentiality by avoiding gossip or discussing open or closed civil or criminal cases or open and closed investigations.

Meeting all deadlines.

 Physical Demands/Work Environment:

Ability to sit or stand for long periods, utilizing office equipment and computers. 

Ability to lift and move office supplies, materials and files on a daily basis and therefore must be capable of lifting at least 40 pounds unassisted.

Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle for sometimes extended periods of time.
